The 2024 Men's CWS in Omaha sets a new record as averaging 24,788 fans per game: ReportsĀ

The 2024 Men's CWS in Omaha was one for the books. The tournament was well received by fans and culminated in a Game 3 victory for the Tennessee Volunteers, who captured their first-ever College World Series title.

According to Front Office Sports, the 2024 MCWS in Omaha averaged a record 24,788 fans per game, the most in MCWS history. This continues the recent tradition of stellar coverage at the most significant event in collegiate baseball.

Numbers behind 2024 Men's CWS in Omaha

As per Front Office Sports, the 2024 Men's College World Series kept up the momentum enjoyed in recent years. It was a little off, breaking records in the process.

Following three straight years of record attendance and a huge viewership spike in 2023, this month's CWS in Omaha came up slightly short of setting new records. According to the report, the total attendance stood at 371,820, just under the 392,946 fans who made it to games at Charles Schwab Field in 2023, despite the new average game attendance record of 24,788.

A likely reason for this is that there were 12 games in the main bracket before the finals compared to the 13 games played this year. That fewer "if necessary" games was enough to tip the scales.

Furthermore, ESPN viewership in 2024 stood at an average of 1.56 million, down from last year's record high of 1.65 million. Game 3 of the CWS Finals averaged 3.34 million viewers, the second-largest CWS audience on ESPN behind the 3.59 million for Game 3 in 2023's Finals.

Tennessee Vols capture 2024 Men's CWS title

The Tennessee Vols entered the 2024 Men's College World Series as the team to beat, and they didn't disappoint in Omaha. The program lost just one game en route to capturing their first-ever College World Series under the watchful guidance of head coach Tony Vitello.

The Tennessee Vols beat Florida State and North Carolina to secure a spot in their first-ever CWS title game. They were slated to play against the equally impressive Texas A&M Aggies, coached by Jim Schlossnagle.

The Aggies won Game 1, giving Vols fans a scare. However, Vitello's side returned to win the next two games and secure their first collegiate baseball national title. They'll undoubtedly enter 2025 as the team to beat.
