The Tennessee Volunteers are going to the College World Series for the seventh time in program history
For the seventh time in history and the third time in the last four years, the Tennessee Volunteers are going to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Sunday night´s decisive 12-1 win over Evansville secured the Vols' ticket to the CWS.
Zander Sechrist's career-best 6.1 innings were crucial to the Volunteers' victory.
What is next? What to expect?
The eight teams in the College World Series, with four from the Southeastern Conference and four from the ACC, advanced to two four-team, double-elimination brackets.
The Vols, who hold the No. 1 national seed, are in Bracket 1 with North Carolina, Florida State and Virginia. Kentucky, NC State, Florida and Texas A&M appear in the other bracket.
Tennessee (55-12) has played three teams in Bracket 2. The Vols went 2-1 against Kentucky, which shared the Southeastern Conference regular season title with UT, and Florida. They beat A&M in the SEC Tournament.
The two bracket winners advance to a best-of-three championship series.
Despite being one of the favorites to win the tournament, the Volunteers have never won the championship. The closest they came was in 1951 when they fell 3-2 to Oklahoma in the final.
In 2022, Tennessee put together one of the best seasons in college baseball history, going 57-9, but couldn't get past the super regionals.
