“This team is unstoppable”: Texas A&M baseball's Jace LaViolette lists team's strengths as they chase its first CWS title
Texas A&M baseball is in red-hot form this season. After earning the highest-ever seeding in program history following a stellar regular season, the 3rd seed Aggies made their maiden College World Series finals unbeaten in Omaha and the whole NCAA Tournament.
Ahead of Game 1 of their best-of-three series against the Tennessee Volunteers for college baseball's most prestigious title, Texas A&M star Jace LaViolette discussed the team's greatest strengths in an interview with NCAA Digital reporter Michella Chester.
The 6-foot-6 outfielder explained how the opportunity to make history for Texas A&M drives the team to play for each other:
"I think we all realize what position we’re in. I think we realize we have a chance to do something special that’s never been done at our school before and I think we have a chance to bring home a national title. I think that kinda brings the spirits up with how everyone’s feeling.
"We love to compete, we love to play the game and I think we’d do anything to win. I keep saying we have three games and we’re done. Even if you’re hurt, you’re still playing."
Despite struggling with injuries to key players like Braden Montgomery, the Aggies have achieved incredible success, which LaViolette believes stems from their mentality:
"I just think it brings more on that we’ve got to play as a team. I feel like one guy can get it done, but if we have all nine guys getting it done at the same time, then this team is unstoppable. I think that brings the motto back to like, we play for each other. We don’t play for ourselves."
Jace LaViolette has starred for Texas A&M baseball this season
The sophomore has been a force to be reckoned with at the plate this year. He has scored 28 home runs and 77 RBI with an average of .306, which is the fourth-highest of all Aggies hitters.
During their 6-0 win against the Florida Gators in Omaha, LaViolette struggled with a tweaked hamstring. However, he ensured that he will take the field in the finals against the Volunteers during his interview with Chester. This will see Aggies fans breathe a sigh of relief, given his incredible form this season and the fact that other key players will not take part due to injuries.
Game 1 of the College World Series finals between the Volunteers and the Aggies will commence at 7:30 pm ET today.
