WATCH: FSU's outfielder Jaime Ferrer shoots an impressive homer against Virginia in 2024 CWS
Jaime Ferrer continued his red-hot form in this year's College World Series on Sunday. The junior proved his ability to perform under pressure with an incredible hitting display in the season-ending tournament to help the Florida State Seminoles clinch a crucial 7-3 victory against the Virginia Cavaliers.
After James Tibbs III drove in the Seminoles' first run of the game, Ferrer opened their batting in the bottom of the fourth. He did not waste any time making his intentions clear, going after Cavaliers' Joe Savino as soon as he took to the mound. He scored a solo home run to double their advantage before going one better in the bottom of the fifth.
The junior crushed Savino's 77mph pitch to score a three-run home run. His effort drew cheers from fans and his teammates, who rushed to the plate to congratulate him. This was his second home run of the game and the third in the tournament.
Marco Dinges' RBI and Alex Lodise's solo home run gave the Seminoles a commanding 7-0 lead by the end of the sixth. Although the Cavaliers responded with three runs in the next two innings, it was not enough to overpower the Seminoles and save themselves in the tournament.
Jaime Ferrer is making a case for the all-tournament team
Ferrer is arguably the Seminoles' top player in Omaha. He kept them in their opening game against the Tennessee Volunteers until the end, scoring a two-run home run and driving in four runs at an average of .321 in their 12-11 defeat.
Against the Cavaliers, the junior drove in four more runs at an average of .324 through his two home runs to take his RBI tally to eight. Should he continue this form, not only will he make a strong case for making the all-tournament team, but the Seminoles can go quite a long way in Omaha.
Following the Seminoles' victory in the elimination bracket, they will face the loser of the game between the Tennessee Volunteers and the North Carolina Tar Heels. That game will take place on Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET, with the winner going to the final of bracket 1.
