Why was Florida vs. Kentucky game postponed today? Taking a look at the College World Series matchup

Tuesday's College World Series do-or-die game between the Florida Gators and the Kentucky Wildcats was postponed. While fans eagerly awaited the 7 p.m. showdown at Charles Schwab Field, impending inclement weather forced the postponement.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 p.m. CDT for several areas of Nebraska, including Omaha.

When is Florida's next College World Series game?

The showdown between the Wildcats and the Gators, which will be the 10th game of this year's College World Series, will take place at 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday. The change means that Game 11 between the Tennessee Volunteers and the Florida State Seminoles will be pushed to 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The winner of the Wildcats-Gators game will go on to face the Texas A&M Aggies in Game 12, which will start at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday. Meanwhile, the loser of that game will be eliminated from the tournament.

Before this game, the Gators and the Wildcats faced each other in a three-game series in Florida in May. After narrowly losing the first game 12-11, the Gators bounced back with a dominant 10-1 victory. Ultimately, they lost the series after a 7-5 defeat in extra innings.

Both teams have had mixed fortunes in the College World Series. The No. 2 national seed Wildcats won their tournament opener with a narrow 5-4 victory over the NC State Wolfpack before losing 5-1 to the Aggies to go to the elimination bracket of Bracket 2.

While the Gators lost their opening game 3-2 to the Aggies, they bounced back with a 5-4 victory over the Wolfpack to eliminate them on the back of two-way sensation Jac Caglianone's heroics at the plate.

The Gators will be intent on keeping their stunning postseason run as the only unseeded team in Omaha and going one step further than last season, finishing as runners-up to the LSU Tigers. However, only 12 teams have gone on to win the tournament after losing their opening game.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats will look to cap their incredible season perfectly by trying to win the CWS in their first appearance. They may have the edge in the head-to-head, but the Gators' recent run poses a legitimate threat.
