The Tennessee Volunteers and the Texas A&M Aggies are in the championship series of the 2024 College World Series. After UT lost the first game 9-5 on Saturday, the Vols won 4-1 in Game 2 on Sunday to force a winner-takes-all Game 3 on Monday evening.
Superstars are showing their support for college baseball as Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper wore a Tennessee Volunteers jersey arriving to his game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday.
Bryce Harper will be happy seeing that coach Tony Vitello and the Tennessee Volunteers were able to win Game 2 and keep their season alive.
There must have been some magic in the jersey as Bryce Harper went 7-for-13 and hit his 18th homer in the three-game series.
According to a February story by WBIR-TV in Knoxville, Harper and Vitello rode horses together in the offseason, becoming friends recently through mutual acquaintances, and Harper owns "countryside property" near Knoxville. Vitello told the TV station that Harper had become a Vols fan before meeting him.
Which team will win Game 3 of the 2024 College World Series?
With the entire 2024 college baseball season down to just nine more innings, it will be an intriguing Game 3 between the Aggies (53-14), the No. 3 national seed, and Vols (59-13), the No. 1 national seed. The series has gone exactly the opposite of what people expected as Texas A&M won Game 1 by scoring nine runs and Tennessee won a low-scoring Game 2 to get to this point.
However, there's a reason the Tennessee Volunteers won Game 2, and that's because they have the overall better roster. They have a significant advantage in terms of their power and at the plate in general.
With the Volunteers showcasing they can come back as they were scoreless through the first six innings of Game 2, it's going to be difficult to count them out.
