Top 3 ACC college baseball players who could go high in Round 2 of MLB draft 2024 ft. Jonathan Santucci
Alongside the Southeastern Conference, the Atlantic Coast Conference is one of the biggest conferences in collegiate baseball. The conference is home to dynamic pitchers, stellar bitters, and blockbuster franchises.
As we count down to this year's MLB draft, let's take a look at how three ACC players could go high in Round 2.
Three ACC players who could go high in Round 2 of the 2024 MLB draft
Here's a look at three ACC players that you should monitor early in Round 2:
#3, Jacob Cozart, center fielder, NC State
Jacob Cozart is one of college baseball's best catchers. The NC State star had his impact felt on both sides of the ball in 2024.
Cozart has the potential to hit 20 or more home runs a season and focuses on strength rather than bat speed. MLB.com projects him to be selected with the 42nd pick in the 2024 MLB draft.
#2, Griff O'Ferrall, Shortstop, Virginia
Griff O'Ferrall is the latest elite bat out of the Virginia talent factory. O'Ferrall might not be the most natural hitter out there, but his intangibles are impressive enough to warrant an early second-round draft pick from MLB franchises.
O'Ferrall has solid bat-to-ball skills and the ability to work at-bats. He's great at drawing walks, has a good feel for the barrel and possesses enough natural ability to punish you if you throw the ball too loosely. MLB.com has him going off the board with the 38th pick of the 2024 MLB draft.
#1, Jonathan Santucci, Pitcher, Duke
Jonathan Santucci has been a key part of Duke's pitching rotation since his freshman year and has remained that way throughout his collegiate career. Santucci is one of the most natural left-handed pitchers and can pose great problems at the next level if nurtured properly.
The only reason why Santucci isn't a surefire first-round pick is due to his control woes and injury record. His 92-96 mph fastball is an asset, his low-80s slider can be a solid weapon at the next level and his mid-80s changeup gives him an underrated third weapon. MLB.com has Santucci going off the board with the 37th pick of the 2024 MLB draft.
