SEC players to watch out in MLB Draft 2024 on Day 3

Here's a look at three SEC prospects who could hear their names called on Day 3.

#3 Roman Kimball, Pitcher - South Carolina

Roman Kimball is a right-handed pitcher for the University of South Carolina. The P27 Academy product spent his first two years at Notre Dame before taking his talents to South Carolina.

Kimball amassed a stat line of 42 strikeouts in 31.1 innings pitched in 15 games. The right-handed pitcher held his opponents to a respectable .211 batting average. His 2024 form was more impressive, considering he didn't play a game in 2023 due to injury.

Kimball is projected to be selected towards the end of the draft, as he's not on most media outlets' draft boards.

#2 Gavin Guidry, Pitcher - LSU

Gavin Guidry is a pitcher and occasional infielder for the LSU Tigers. He's a Barbe High School product and one of the better pitchers on the Tigers.

Guidry had a decent 2024 season, making 22 relief appearances, posting a 2-0 mark and a 2.59 ERA in 24.1 innings with 18 walks and 36 strikeouts. He recorded a combined 4.2 innings in LSU's SEC and NCAA postseason fixtures, allowing a mere one unearned run on three hits, plus six strikeouts and one save.

He might get his name called late on Day 3.

#1 Alan Espinal, Catcher - Vanderbilt

Alan Espinal is primarily a catcher for the Vanderbilt Commodores. Espinal is highly respected on campus due to his dependability on the field and intelligence off it.

Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin praised the high school prodigy for his teamwork, drive and penchant for the spectacular. Espinal's receiving and throwing is impressive, so a franchise might take out a flier on the MLB Draft prospect.

Espinal also anticipates a late third-day selection to earn him his shot at the big leagues.
