What seed was Tennessee in the College World Series? Taking a look at the 2024 CWS winners' journey
The Tennessee Vols had quite the journey to their first-ever College World Series title. The Tony Vitello-led franchise vanquished every opposition on their way to lifting the biggest title in college baseball.
The Tennessee Vols were the first seed heading into the playoffs. Following their historic run, let's look at how the Vols performed in the postseason.
How did the Tennessee Vols perform in the 2024 College World Series?
The Tennessee Vols entered the playoffs with the best record in the college baseball regular season. The Vols were excellent in the stacked SEC Conference, becoming the only team in all of baseball in 2024 to finish with over 50 wins.
The Vols won it all, becoming the first number-one seed to win the College World Series since Miami (Fla.) did so in 1999. The Tony Vitello-coached program was also the first team to win 60 games since 1989.
Furthermore, Tennessee is the first program in college baseball history to have five players record 20+ home runs in a single season. They won the SEC Eastern Division, SEC Regular Season and Tournament titles, and a Regional, Super Regional, and College World Series in the same year. They're arguably the most dominant baseball program of the past few decades.
Will the Tennessee Vols go back-to-back-to-back in 2025?
Many Tennessee Vols' starters would return for the 2025 college baseball season. Tony Vitello has rejected approaches from rival programs and seems committed to building something special in Tennessee. However, the team will have to do it without their star batter, Christian Moore, who will be entering the 2024 MLB Draft. Moore was phenomenal in the 2024 College World Series and bailed out the Vols on several occasions. The program will likely look inwards to replace Moore's home run scoring ability.
The Vols have the tools required to be the first team since South Carolina in 2011 to go back-to-back. Their fans know it won't be easy, but you can count on Tom Vitello's side to leave it all on the field.
