Who is Link Jarrett's son, J.T. Jarrett? Exploring the Florida State HC's son's playing career
Link Jarrett and his son, J.T. Jarrett, are in Omaha for the College World Series. Link is coaching the Florida State Seminoles, while J.T. is the Director of Player & Program Development for N.C. State. The Jarretts have at least two reasons for being in Omaha, and we will spotlight J.T. here.
Who is J.T. Jarrett?
J.T. Jarrett is a former college baseball infielder for N.C. State. The son of Link and Jennifer Jarrett is one of the greatest players in the history of N.C. State baseball.
Jarrett made 226 appearances and 193 starts in his five-year collegiate career from 2018-22. He was part of the 2021 N.C. State team that qualified for the College World Series in Omaha. He started 55 games that season, all at second base, and made only two errors.
Jarrett had a .980 fielding percentage as part of the playing squad, making a mere 16 errors out of 779 total defensive chances. Furthermore, he produced 33 doubles, 10 homers, 102 RBIs, and 103 runs scored for the program.
J.T. Jarrett is the Director of Player & Program Development at N.C. State
N.C. State baseball has a tradition of hiring former players to staff roles. In 2023, J.T. became the latest to make the transition from the pitch to the office.
N.C. State head coach Elliott Avent hired J.T. as the Player & Program Development Director in August 2023. In a press release, Avent said:
"Early in his playing career, his inherent leadership skills and knowledge of our game were evident, which is not surprising as he is the son of one of college baseball's best coaches."
The long-time N.C. State head coach continued:
"But what makes J.T. great is his work ethic, heart, and ability to make everyone around him better."
The role was his third after his collegiate career. Jarrett was the Gulf Coast State College assistant coach in the summer of 2023. He also worked on the staff of Mississippi State for a year as he pursued his Master's degree.
The former N.C. State star has done a decent job in his role. The program has made its first College World Series appearance since 2021, and they'll be looking to put up a decent showing in Omaha.
