Who is pitching for Tennessee today? All eyes on Volunteers in 2024 College World Series Finals Game 1 - June 22
The Tennessee Volunteers square off against the Texas A&M Aggies in Game 1 of the 2024 College World Series finals on Saturday. The highly anticipated matchup will begin at 7:30 p.m. EDT at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.
Tennessee starting pitcher today
Chris Stamos will start as Tennessee's pitcher against Texas A&M on Sunday, the Vols have confirmed.
Stamos has been critical for the Vols this season and has a 3-0 record heading into the CWS finals. The left-hander has recorded 35 strikeouts and 16 walks across 31.2 innings pitched at a 4.26 ERA.
Notably, Stamos tossed against the Aggies less than a month ago, when Tennessee beat Texas A&M 7-4 in the SEC Tournament. He pitched a career-high 3.1 innings and allowed just one run on three hits while striking out three.
It will be interesting to see how Stamos fares against the Aggies on the biggest stage of the postseason.
While speaking to the media earlier this week, Tennessee coach Tony Vitello insisted that his team won't change the pitching rotation just for the finals.
"We don't have anything different," Vitello said. "Zander would make the joke that he pitched the mid-week game like he did the other day (Wednesday against Florida State). But we'll kind of take it one game at a time, literally, with our guys, withstanding (Drew) Beam."
