Who is pitching for Tennessee today? All eyes on Volunteers in 2024 College World Series game - June 19
The Tennessee Volunteers will face off against the Florida State Seminoles in the 2024 College World Series semifinals on Wednesday. The crunch clash will commence at 3 p.m. EDT at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska. The Vols need to win on Wednesday to make it to the CWS finals. Meanwhile, FSU needs to beat Tennessee twice to reach the final stretch of the postseason.
Tennessee starting pitcher today
Zander Sechrist will start as Tennessee's pitcher against Florida State on Wednesday, the Vols confirmed earlier this week.
While speaking to the media, Tennessee coach Tony Vitello said that he was "anxious" to start Sechrist, since it will be his first time pitching in Omaha.
“I’m anxious to see him (Sechrist) out there on the mound and he will start for us,” Vitello said. ” And then, you know how he does, it’s like same thing, every day’s different. So when we get out there in the first inning, regardless of who it is, if it’s (Chris Stamos) or somebody else, we’re looking to hunt down three outs as quickly as possible and then we’ll move on to that next inning, whatever it might be.”
Sechrist has been enjoying a strong season with Tennessee and has a 4-1 record. The left-hander has racked up 66 strikeouts and 14 walks across 66.1 innings pitched at a 3.26 ERA ahead of his maiden College World Series appearance.
It will be interesting to see how Sechrist fares against the Seminoles on Wednesday as he has the chance to put his team into the CWS finals.
