Who is pitching for Virginia today? All eyes on Cavaliers in 2024 College World Series game - June 14
The Virginia Cavaliers begin their 2024 College World Series campaign on Friday when they take on the North Carolina Tar Heels. The game begins at 2 p.m. at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.
Virginia starting pitcher today
Evan Blanco will start as Virginia's pitcher against North Carolina on Friday. Cavaliers coach Brian O’Connor heaped praise on the pitcher while speaking to reporters earlier this week.
"Evan Blanco has earned the right to start [Friday] in this opening game for what he’s done all year long,” O’Connor said.
"As of late, the back part of the season, he’s been incredibly consistent and went out there and given us six or seven innings every time and given us a chance to win the ball game. You’re going to go with your guy and he’s our guy. He’s earned it. That said, I know North Carolina will be prepared for him.” O’Connor added.
Blanco has an 8-3 record this season, and has won three of his last four starts. He has racked up 95 strikeouts and 25 walks across 92.2 innings pitched, with a 3.69 ERA.
Notably, Blanco will head into the CWS following an impressive outing against Kanas State in Game 1 of the Charlottesville Super Regional last week. The pitcher had a seven-inning start with nine strikeouts to propel Virginia to a 7-4 win.
