Who is pitching for Virginia today? All eyes on Cavaliers in 2024 College World Series game - June 16

The Virginia Cavaliers will face the Florida State Seminoles in their second game of the 2024 College World Series on Sunday. The elimination game will commence at 2 p.m. EDT at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.

Virginia starting pitcher today

Jay Woolfolk will start as Virginia's pitcher against Florida State on Sunday, the Cavaliers confirmed earlier this week.

Virginia coach Brian O’Connor spoke to the media on Saturday and insisted that he has the confidence in Woolfolk to deliver the goods in this do-or-die game.

“He has handled the moment, the last two starts,” O’Connor said, “and I really believe Jay Woolfolk will handle tomorrow afternoon and the opportunity that he has in front of him.”

Woolfolk also expressed his desire to perform for his team after an impressive run in the postseason thus far.

“It’s kind of the same situation that this postseason has been,” Woolfolk said. “I know in the regional and super regional, we didn’t lose at all, but it’s still the same mentality. The guys are depending on me.”

Woolfolk has grown into one of the most important players in the Virginia squad, and he has a 4-1 record this season. The right-hander has racked up 64 strikeouts and 37 walks in 59.0 innings pitched at a 5.95 ERA.

It will be interesting to see how Woolfolk performs at the biggest stage of the college baseball season since the Cavs need to win to stay alive in the CWS.
