Who is Vance Honeycutt’s dad, Bob? Taking a look at UNC player’s father’s career
Vance Honeycutt has not only become one of the stars for the North Carolina Tar Heels, but arguably one of the best players in college baseball today. In three seasons with the Tar Heels, the junior has made a solid impact on the team, breaking program records along the way.
While Honeycutt has enjoyed incredible success, he is not the only one to carry his family name in college baseball. His father, Bob Honeycutt was the first to do it, representing the Tar Heels during his college days. Here's a peek into his college baseball career.
Who is Bob Honeycutt, Vance Honeycutt's gather?
Bob Honeycutt also attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He represented the Tar Heels in NCAA Baseball in 1988 and 1989. He was part of the 1989 Tar Heels team that won the ACC regular season title and earned the No. 8 seed in the postseason.
They took part in that year's College World Series after winning the South Regional playoff. However, they were among the first teams eliminated in Omaha that year after losing to the top-seeded Florida State Seminoles and Arkansas Razorbacks in quick succession.
The Honeycutts' ties to Chapel Hill run even deeper as Vance's mother Leah Ann was part of the Tar Heels' track and field team. While Bob did not make the MLB draft after his college baseball career, his son Vance has taken the Honeycutt family name further, and likely into the MLB from next season.
Vance Honeycutt already had the chance to play in the MLB when the San Francisco Giants drafted him in the 20th round of the 2021 MLB draft. However, he chose to follow in his father's footsteps and remain at UNC, where he majored in communication studies.
In three seasons at Chapel Hill, Vance has scored 64 home runs and driven in 167 RBIs at an average of .289. The outfielder enjoyed one of his best seasons this year, recording 27 home runs and 67 RBIs at an average of .307. In addition, he stole 28 bases, one less than he did in his freshman season.
The Tar Heels' 2024 season came to an end after their 9-5 loss to the Florida State Seminoles in their College World Series elimination game earlier today. It seems the next step for Vance Honeycutt will finally be playing in the MLB, with his exploits putting him as a projected first-round pick in the 2024 MLB draft.
