3 Big East players who could pose a serious threat to Geno Auriemma's UConn in 2024-25 season
Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies plan to lift the NCAA title in the 2024-25 season. Given that this will be the coach's last season with star player Paige Bueckers, the pressure only doubles.
However, few of the top-scoring names in the Big East have either exhausted their eligibility or transferred to another program. This puts Paige Bueckers and Aaliyah Edwards as the top Big East scorers from last season, giving UConn a solid chance to cruise through its conference.
Here's a closer look at other key players from the Big East, who could threaten Geno Auriemma's game plan to glory in the 2024-25 season.
Big East players that could trouble Geno Auriemma's UConn in 2024-25 season
#3. Kelsey Ransom – Georgetown
Ransom was the Georgetown Hoyas' best player last season, averaging 14.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.2 steals. Apart from leading the program, it was her best season in terms of scoring, assists and free throw shooting.
Moreover, Kelsey Ransom solidified herself as a solid perimeter defender, earning the Big East Defensive Player of the Year award. The only thing she will need to focus on is efficiency, as Geno Auriemma's schemes could capitalize on that.
#2. Morgan Maly – Creighton Bluejays
Solid foundations and clean shooting mechanics have allowed the Maly to post back-to-back promising seasons. Last year, the forward averaged 15.2 ppg and 6.5 rpg while shooting nearly 45% from the floor.
She crossed the 20-point mark eight times last year. Her highest scoring came with a 30-point, 10-rebound outing against the South Dakota Coyotes early in the season.
#1. Lauren Jensen – Creighton Bluejays
The Lakeville native loves to be on the offensive end and can score in multiple ways. She has shown a gradual increase in all areas of her game, be it shooting foundations or leadership. Jensen averaged 17.4 ppg, 3.7 rpg and 3.1 apg last season while shooting 44.3% from the floor.
Lauren Jensen touched the 20-point mark 12 times last season and had a season-high 32 points against the Michigan State Spartans. Jensen has had her troubles with UConn in the past. Her biggest objective will be to maintain her natural game flow against Geno Auriemma's crew.
