3 Duke players with the biggest NBA contracts in 2024 ft. Jayson Tatum's $314M deal
The Duke Blue Devils have managed to stay in the nation's top mix of upcoming basketball talent. Be it youngsters like Paolo Banchero and Derrick Lively II, season superstars like Jayson Tatum and Kyrie Irving, or upcoming top talents like Kyle Filipowski and Cooper Flagg, Duke talents seemingly shine bright in the flashiest of lights.
Now, as Jayson Tatum wins his first Larry O'Brien trophy and cracks the biggest NBA contract ever, here's a closer look at Duke players with the biggest NBA contracts this offseason.
3 Duke players with the biggest NBA contracts in 2024
#1. Jayson Tatum - $314 million
Things could change quickly if LeBron James signs with LA in the coming weeks or when Luka Doncic signs an extension next year. However, until then, Jayson Tatum has the biggest contract in the NBA.
He recently agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $315 million. The deal will hand him nearly $62.8 million each year starting from the 2025-26 season.
#2. Zion Williamson - $197.2 million
Zion Williamson was aligned to pull big numbers when he exited Duke as the most hyped student-athlete in 2019. He is with the New Orleans Pelicans through a five-year, $197.2 million max contract extension signed in July 2022.
However, due to Williamson’s recurring injury issues, the Pelicans posed certain conditions around his weight and injuries in the contract. Nevertheless, it is easy to say Williamson cleared those doubts when he almost took over a Play-In game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
#3. Kyrie Irving - $126 million
Kyrie Irving signed a nearly guaranteed three-year $126 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks last offseason.
Irving will have the flexibility of a player option for the last year alongside multiple year-long incentives of up to $6 million each year. These include an additional $1 million for playing 58 games individually and touching 50 wins on the season.
