3 reasons why 5-star recruit Chris Cenac should choose John Calipari's Arkansas over LSU
Five-star center Chris Cenac is yet to make any commitments on his future and will be highly sought-after until he does. The New Orleans, Los Angeles, native is strongly linked to LSU, but there's an argument to be made that the Link Academy big might be better suited as a Razorback under John Calipari.
Cenac made an official visit to Arkansas this past weekend, and with Calipari now helming the ship in Fayetteville, it could be an opportunity for the big man to find the best success in a new era for the Razorbacks.
Playing under coach Cal brings with it a number of benefits, not least the chance to learn from one of the greatest coaches the NCAA has seen. That being said, here are three solid reasons why Cenac should choose Arkansas.
Why Chris Cenac should choose Arkansas over LSU
No. 1 Coach Cal has a history of producing NBA stars
Every college basketball athlete wants to play in the NBA, and it won't be any different with Cenac. Under Calipari, we've seen the likes of Anthony Davis and Karl Anthony-Towns thrive and bloom into star NBA players, which bodes well for a center like Cenac.
Calipari has produced multiple lottery picks throughout his coaching career, so for Cenac, coach Cal could be the one to bring the best out of him and set him up to thrive in the Association.
No. 2 Early minutes will be available at Arkansas
Current Razorback big men Trevon Brazile and Jonas Aidoo are set to graduate after this season, which means first-year minutes will be there for the taking for Cenac. Early exposure like that could do wonders for the freshman's development and overall draft stock going forward.
No. 3 Cenac would be a perfect fit in Calipari's system
Other high-profile Razorback recruits like Boogie Fland, Karter Knox and Billy Richmond are all perimeter-focused players, meaning Calipari would need an elite center presence that Cenac could provide.
At 6-foot-10, Cenac has all the skills required of a modern center. He’s a capable shooter, has decent handles, and defends the basket at a high level. This two-way skill set would pair perfectly with Calipari's system.
With Cenac officially narrowing his list of schools down to seven, Calipari and the Arkansas program will be doing everything in their power to secure the star prospect's commitment. And we wouldn't be surprised if he did.
