A'ja Wilson has established herself as a household name in the WNBA. But before becoming one of the league's biggest names with the Las Vegas Aces, she was one of the most feared players in women's college basketball during her career with the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Wilson joined the Gamecocks in 2014 as the top-ranked prospect in the country per ESPN. In four seasons at South Carolina, she etched her name in the program's record books, setting records across various categories.
Wilson finished her career with the Gamecocks as the leader in career points (2,389), career blocked shots (363), career blocked shot average (2.6), career free throws made (597) and career free throw attempts (835).
She also finished second in career field goals made (893), career defensive rebounds (821), and career double-doubles (47), while finishing third in career rebounds (1,195) and career games played (138).

A'ja Wilson was a force to be reckoned with in her junior year, leading the Gamecocks' charge to the coveted national championship in the 2016-17 season. In 35 starts, she averaged 17.9 points and 7.8 rebounds, earning unanimous First-Team All-American honors. She was also named a finalist for the Naismith Award, the Wooden Award, and the Wade Trophy.
Wilson's senior season was by far her strongest season in college basketball. Although the Gamecocks could not retain their title, she set single-season records en route to being named the unanimous National Player of the Year and earning unanimous First-Team All-American honors for the 2017-18 season.
Wilson averaged 22.6 points and 11.8 rebounds in 2017-18, and set single-season program records for blocked shots (105), defensive rebounds (276), blocked shots average (2.6), free throws made (186) and games played (37). The talented forward also set single-season SEC records in points (287), rebounding average (12.8) and blocked shots (53).
The Las Vegas Aces made the most of their opportunity in the 2018 WNBA draft, making Wilson the top overall pick. This made her the first No. 1 overall pick in Gamecocks history, and the sixth in SEC history.
Since then, Wilson turned the Aces around. She led them to their first-ever WNBA championship in 2022 and followed that up with a successful defense in 2023. She is a two-time WNBA MVP, the WNBA Finals MVP in 2023 and a six-time WNBA All-Star.
