AJ Dybantsa dismisses comparisons with Kevin Durant: “I don’t see it”

AJ Dybantsa isn't buying on AI and experts' impressions regarding his style of play or comparisons with Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant. Dybantsa, the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2025, is being compared to Durant, but he dismissed it, saying that he hasn't seen any comparisons with the lanky forward

"You know what ... I don't see it! I don't see it," the Utah Prep star said (1:22:35) during his appearance in Podcast P with Philadelphia 76ers star and former Fresno State player Paul George.
"Yeah I've gotten a comparison before. I think it's just kind I'm taller than everybody, but I don't see it," he added.

The six-foot-nine small forward would like to be compared withJayson Tatum, Paul George and Brandon Ingram because they were in his top 5 players' list.

Dybantsa, who is being courted by Auburn, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, Alabama, BYU and North Carolina for the 2025-26 season, pointed out that he patterns his style of play on Tatum, George and Ingram, so he would like to hear that rather than being compared to Durant, the 2014 NBA Most Valuable Player.

AJ Dybantsa discusses recruitment process

AJ Dybantsa also touched upon his recruitment process in Podcast P. He said that he lets his father talk to the coaches, especially when his prospect list went up to 35 schools.

“Before I narrowed my list down, my dad talked to all the coaches. I had, what, 35 offers and I did not talk to one of them. I let him handle that, I’m trying to go hoop, I’m not trying to answer 35 calls, respectfully, I’m not going to 35 visits,” he said (1:14:08).

Dybantsa hopes he can build a relationship with the coach he's planning to play for as he lives on his ideals which are deeply rooted in family values.

“Then when it was time to narrow it down, I talked to some coaches over his phone and we picked the best seven and now I have their numbers so I can try and build a relationship with the coach that I’m going to most likely play for,” he said (1:14:26).

AJ Dybantsa also pointed out that having a strong support team like his parents makes the decision easier. He lets them pick a school that would help him explore the growth process of being a one-and-done basketball player in college.
