“Both the [Cayden and Cameron] Boozers, really good”: When Cooper Flagg complimented fellow high school prospects
Duke freshman Cooper Flagg has played against the Boozers twins—Cayden and Cameron—multiple times during his high school and AAU careers.
Flagg, who played for Maine United, competed with the Boozers brothers at Nike's Peach Jam last year. Similarly, Flagg and his high school team, Montverde Academy, take on Boozers and Christopher Columbus High in the Chipotle Nationals.
Cooper Flagg has plenty of experience against the Boozers, who are among the top prospects in the 2025 class, and knows them quite well. In a YouTube video from June last year by Made Hoops, the Maine showered praise on the Boozers.
"I mean both the Boozers, they're both really good obviously," Cooper said ."I think Koa Peat, he's pretty good and all the guys I met at the USA minicamp." [TS - 5:46]
Flagg, who was initially a 2025 class recruit before reclassifying to 2024, was third best in the rankings behind Cameron Boozer who reigns at No. 1, according to 247Sports. Instead of feeling frustrated about being ranked below Boozer, Flagg said it actually motivated him.
"It's not irritating but it's just motivating. It always just pushes you and makes you want to work harder," Flagg said.
Cooper Flagg's reclassification paved way for Duke to sign the Boozer twins
One way or another, Cooper Flagg played an indirect role in the Blue Devils landing the Boozer twins, Cayden and Cameron.
Flagg was ranked the third-best prospect in the 2025 class, while Cameron was the No. 1 player in the country. By reclassifying a year ahead, Flagg unknowingly helped create an opening the Boozers were looking to fill at Duke.
Had Flagg remained in the 2025 class, things may have played out differently for Duke's recruitment of the Boozer brothers.
Jon Scheyer and his coaching staff would likely try hard to sign Flagg, one of the leading prospects among high school players. That pursuit would have made it tougher for Duke to devote the necessary resources toward landing Cameron and Cayden.
Former NBA star Carlos Boozer, father of the Boozer twins, won the national championship with the Blue Devils.
"I'm proud of them. They've worked their bu*** off for this moment," Carlos told ESPN. "Really excited that they took their time. Decided to play together in college, which is amazing. They both complement each other so well. They made the best decision for them."
The Boozer twins will join the Duke roster next year, but it is highly unlikely that Cooper Flagg will play alongside them, as he is the projected top pick in the 2025 NBA draft.
