CBB Transfer Portal Rankings: Where will Aidan Mahaney, DJ Wagner and Brandon Garrison land?

Aidan Mahaney, DJ Wagner and Brandon Garrison have announced their intentions to go into the transfer portal to find new teams that could maximize their services and boost their chances of contending in the NCAA Tournament next year.

Mahaney entered the transfer portal weeks after guiding St Mary's to the West Coast Conference regular season-tournament double.

The six-foot-three guard was the latest Gaels star to test the transfer portal following Joshua Jefferson. He was a two-time All-WCC first-team guard with career averages of 13.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

Top-10 high school recruit DJ Wagner became the latest Kentucky Wildcats player to splash into the portal weeks after John Calipari left Lexington to coach for Arkansas.

Wagner, who averaged 9.9 points, 3.3 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game in 29 games last season, followed fellow freshmen Aaron Bradshaw and Zvonimir Ivisic in placing their names in the transfer portal after one season with Kentucky.

Lastly, former McDonald's All-American Brandon Garrison is leaving Oklahoma State after one season with the Cowboys. The fourth-best center in the 2023 class played 32 games for Oklahoma State and averaged 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game and shot 57.2%.

Several teams had expressed interest in claiming the big man, including Kentucky, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma.

At least four teams have expressed interest in acquiring the incoming sophomore. The list includes Oklahoma, Texas, Xavier, Kentucky and Arkansas.

These schools need a big man who can establish their frontcourt for the 2024-25 season. Garrison played 32 games for Oklahoma State and excelled in the center spot.

The six-foot-11 slotman hauled down 3.9 defensive rebounds and blocked 1.5 shots per outing for the Cowboys.

Where will Brandon Garrison land?

Garrison had visited Oklahoma and is set to drop by to Texas to weigh in on his chances. He's slated to visit Kentucky and Arkansas next week as he will hear the pitches, possibly from Wildcats coach Mark Pope and Razorbacks chief tactician Calipari.

If his transfer decision goes down to the best team that will maximize his abilities, the best answer is Kentucky, as it lost Zvonimir Ivisic to Arkansas. However, if Garrison is thinking about the potential to win titles with a proven coach, Calipari and Arkansas are the best fit.

#2 DJ Wagner

Wagner was part of the top-ranked 2023 recruiting class but failed to live up to the potential, as he had a disappointing 2023-24 season with the Wildcats.

However, it's not too late for the incoming sophomore as his decision to remain in college and enter the transfer portal could place him as a breakout performer next season.

Where will DJ Wagner land?

There's a possibility that his transfer portal journey could lead him back to Calipari, as the Razorbacks are in need of guards who could adapt to the one-time champion coach's system.

Other teams that could take him are Louisville and Seton Hall, as they also need a playmaker in the mold of Wagner. If familiarity will be a factor in Wagner's decision, Arkansas could be the big winner in this sweepstakes. But do not discount the other schools, as he could have a breakout season for the Cardinals and Pirates that could raise his stock in the 2025 NBA Draft.

#1 Aidan Mahaney

Mahaney has been a proven commodity in the guard spot, as he was one of the top producers for the Gaels over the past two seasons.

So it's no surprise that a ton of teams, including Duke, UConn, Kentucky, Florida, Alabama, Michigan and Arkansas, have dropped a line to promote their programs for the incoming junior.

The Blue Devils have a void to fill in their guard roster following Jeremy Roach's declaration for the NBA Draft and at the same time place his name available for transfer to another school.

If Duke gets his commitment, Mahaney strengthens the guard lineup that's already made up of Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster.
