Connor McCaffery college stats: Former Iowa star's NCAA feats and accolades

For Connor McCaffery, his journey to college basketball was almost destined, being the son of Iowa coach Fran McCaffery. After a standout high school career, where he was named Des Moines Register Boys Basketball Player of the Year in 2017, Connor joined his father’s Iowa Hawkeyes from 2017 to 2023.

Connor McCaffery’s career at Iowa was defined by his playmaking and consistency. Across his six years, he averaged 4.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 31.7% from 3-point range.

He played in 166 games, the second most in program history, and tied the program record for most career wins (111) alongside teammate Jordan Bohannon.

McCaffery’s career highlight was his assist-to-turnover ratio, with 527 assists and just 147 turnovers—a ratio of 3.59. This ranks as the second-best in NCAA history.

Over his career, he scored in double figures 23 times and dished out five or more assists in 37 games. In his final season, he earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention, averaging 6.5 ppg, 4.1 rpg and 3.7 apg. He also set personal bests in scoring, rebounding, steals and 3-pointers.

Off-the-court achievements and Butler job

Off the court, Connor McCaffery was equally impressive. He earned Academic All-Big Ten honors five times and was named to the NABC Honors Court three times. He was also selected to the Academic All-District First Team twice.

A leader beyond basketball, McCaffery was also a member of the Big Ten Anti-Hate and Anti-Racism Coalition.

Throughout his college career, McCaffery collected a number of awards, including:

  • Chris Street Award (for leadership, integrity, and commitment)
  • Top Playmaker Award (for exceptional playmaking)
  • Academic Excellence Award (for outstanding academic achievement)

After spending his first year out of college as a coach for the Indiana Pacers, McCaffery was recently announced as the new assistant coach at Butler.
