"Every time I step on the court, there's a chance for me to improve": Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan once gave a sneak peek into his mindset
Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan Anthony carries the same spirit and passion for the game as his father. The Long Island Lutheran star, who burst onto the scene at Nike Nationals last year, is quickly becoming a fan-favorite high school hooper.
In episode six of Overtime's "Evolu7ion," posted in September 2023, Anthony was back home playing a streetball league with his high school friends. The video shows him playing at the iconic West Fourth 'The Cage' court in New York, where he shared a brief comment about his mentality.
"Doesn't matter if it's street ball pickup or EYBL every time I step on the court, there's a chance for me to improve," Kiyan said. (01:36)
Kiyan Anthony and Team Melo were on losing streaks in Nike's EYBL and suffered another loss against Pro Skills, which infuriated Carmelo Anthony.
"My dad, he know when to stop talking or walk away from it. He gave me that look like oh yeah it's one of those days," Kiyan said after the game.
Kiyan Anthony, the top ranked player in New York, will play his final year of high school basketball this upcoming season. He has already finalized his list of preferred schools and has said that he will make his commitment in October or November.
Anthony's mother La La has also been impressed with her son's strong work ethic and once wrote a note saying:
"The hard work and dedication this kid puts in is like nothing I've ever seen before BUT what's most important is he's humble & kind & grateful."
Carmelo Anthony's son, Kiyan, shared his desire to be top pick in NBA draft
Carmelo Anthony's son, Kiyan, understands that there will always be a comparison between him and his illustrious father. The six-foot-five guard aspires not only to match Carmelo's success but also surpass it.
"I want to be the first pick in the NBA draft. I want to show the world I'm not just an NBA player's son. Now it's my turn," Kiyan said in an episode of Evolu7ion.
"I'm ready to really step into the shoes that I need to fill ... I'm trying to get in NBA. I'm trying to produce an NBA so to myself I want to prove that I'm one of the best players in the country for real."
Carmelo Anthony was the third overall pick in the 2003 draft, which came after a surreal season at Syracuse where he led the Orange to the national championship. Melo went on to play in the NBA for two decades, making 10 All-Star appearances.
