"I'm trying to get there": Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan Anthony once shared his desire to match his dad's hooping prowess
Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan Anthony has evolved into an impressive young talent from the start of his high school years to currently approaching his final season. He is the No. 1 recruit in New York in the 2025 class.
In a video shared by Ballslife on YouTube three years ago titled "Kiyan Anthony Day In The Life," the 6-foot-5 guard shared his ambition to emulate his father's basketball experience.
"I've been trying to. I watch his highlights, trying to master his game because no nobody could guard him so I'm trying to be like that and yeah, I try to do some of his moves but it's tough. He's different so I'm trying to get there," Kiyan said. [Time Stamp - 4:17]
Carmelo Anthony is a ten-time NBA All Star who has won several accolades in his illustrious playing career. He also played a crucial role in guiding Syracuse to its first national championship.
Kiyan Anthony has a long way to go in terms of the success his dad achieved. However, his mentality demonstrated a remarkable self-awareness at such a young age.
"It’s big shoes to fill. I’m not trying to be him exactly, but him passing the torch down to me, it’s pressure but I don’t feel any pressure when I’m on the court," Kiyan told On3. "It’s a great feeling, him leaning on me and trusting me to fill those shoes and passing the torch. I’m ready for what’s to come."
Kiyan Anthony thinks he shoots "a little better" than Carmelo at his age
Kiyan Anthony made a bold claim that he is better than his dad Carmelo Anthony was at the same age.
Two weeks ago on the "Sloane Knows" podcast, Kiyan compared himself to Melo.
"[08:01] The way we score is kind of similar, like shooting and getting to the basket," he said. "I feel like I shoot a little better than him at this age. He was a little bit taller and he got to the basket a little more, so I feel like I could shoot a little better shooter than him."
The Long Island Lutheran star plays for Team Melo in AAU circuits. In Nike's EYBL Peach Jam this summer, Kiyan Anthony put on an impressive display, averaging 21.8 points, 2.5 assists and 2.6 rebounds.
Besides, Kiyan is also at the end of his recruitment process with only one team out of his final list left to visit: Rutgers on Oct. 4.
