IN PHOTO: 4-star recruit Cam Ward recaps official visit to Tony Bennett-led Virginia
Highly-rated high school prospect Cam Ward visited ACC team Virginia this past weekend and the 6-foot-7 wingman recapped his trip to the UVA campus in an Instagram post.
The Largo High School forward had a chance to wear the Virginia uniform in a photo opportunity with his family in front of the team's 2019 national championship trophy and the Final Four logo.
Virginia is in Ward's Top 10 schools he wishes to play for in the 2025-26 season. Other schools that the highly-touted forward is interested in suiting up are Michigan State, Marquette, Mississippi State, Alabama, Kansas State, Maryland, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and Florida State.
He has already paid a visit to Notre Dame, Marquette and Vanderbilt and is set to have campus tours in Kansas State, Maryland, Michigan State, and Alabama in October.
The Cavaliers have two open scholarship spots available for the 2025-26 season and aside from Ward, the school hosted four-star point guard Keyshuan Tillery for an official visit.
The campus will also roll the carpet for Charlottesville point guard Chance Mallory and five-star forward Nate Ament on Sept. 13. Highly-touted guard JJ Mandaquit and power forward London Jemison are set to visit Virginia on Sept. 27.
The Tony Bennett-led program is coming off a 23-11 finish in the 2023-24 season. The Cavaliers received an at-large bid in the 2024 NCAA Tournament and were knocked out by Colorado State in the First Four.
Virginia hopes to turn the tide in the 2024-25 college basketball season
The 2024-25 season will be promising for Virginia as Tony Bennett assembled a solid 13-man roster that includes six holdovers, five transfers and two freshmen.
Leading the Cavaliers' charge is Isaac McKneely, who had a breakout season in his sophomore stint last year. He averaged 12.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game and made 2.5 3-pointers/game in the 2023-24 season.
Bennett will also count on Florida State transfer Jalen Warley and top high school recruit Jacob Cofie. Warley provided solid figures in offense and defense for the Seminoles this past season and is expected to provide help for McKneely at the backcourt in Virginia's 2024-25 men's basketball campaign.
On the other hand, Cofie put up double-double averages of 21.9 points and 12.2 rebounds per contest during his stint with Eastside Catholic. Adding Ward to the team next season would be beneficial as it forms a solid frontcourt combo alongside Cofie if he decides to return for the 2025-26 season.
