Is Deion Sanders' daughter Shelomi Sanders eligible for 2025 WNBA draft?
Alabama A&M guard Shelomi Sanders is the youngest daughter of former NFL and MLB star and current Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders. She is also the little sister of Buffaloes safety Shilo and quarterback Shedeur.
Shelomi Sanders was born on Dec. 14, 2003, to Deion Sanders and Pilar Biggers-Sanders. Like her father and brothers, Shelomi was into sports and claimed to be the best athlete in the family.
The 5-foot-6 player had her baptism of fire at the Rockwell-Heath High School in Rockwell, Texas. She showcased expertise in outside shooting, knocking down perimeter jumpers and numerous 3-pointers.
Shelomi Sanders struck fear into opposing defenders with her sniping abilities, and this talent gave her the opportunity to play for Jackson State in college. She only appeared in two games for the Tigers in the 2022-23 season and played for a combined nine minutes, averaging 1.0 points, 0.5 rebounds and 0.5 steals.
Sanders would transfer to Colorado in 2023 and take part in five games. She tallied three points, three rebounds and one steal for the Buffaloes. The guard eventually transferred to Alabama A&M and has appeared in eight games this season and averaged 1.8 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.5 assists per outing.
Shelomi Sanders still has two more years of eligibility in college, which she can use to improve on her statistics for a better chance of getting picked in the WNBA. League rules state domestic draft entrants should be at least 22 years old during the year in which the draft takes place.
She should exhaust her college eligibility or renounce her eligibility to qualify. This means that Sanders isn't qualified for next year's draft, and the best possible year that she can enlist is after the 2026-27 women's college basketball season.
Shelomi Sanders tries to prove her worth with Alabama A&M despite limited playing time
Alabama A&M junior Shelomi Sanders is trying to step away from the shadow of her famous father and brother, who are stars in the football scene. Although she hasn't gotten the minutes she wanted in her first three seasons, there were some instances she presented her potential.
This season, she has played a career-high eight games and scored a total of 14 points. This includes Sanders putting up a season-high six points on 2-of-5 shooting from the 3-point line in 15 minutes in Alabama A&M's win over Alabama-Huntsville.
She has scored three points each in her last two games against San Diego and Lindenwood. Most of her shots were from the 3-point line as she tries to find her range for the Bulldogs, who are at the top spot in the SWAC standings at 5-3.
Shelomi Sanders is scheduled to see action on Dec. 17 against North Alabama as she hopes to find more playing time and more shot opportunities to improve on her averages this season.
