“It comes out of love”: Last-Tear Poa and Flau’jae Johnson in splits while discussing Kim Mulkey “yelling and cussing” at people
LSU coach Kim Mulkey becomes animated on the team's sidelines whenever the Lady Tigers step onto the court for a game. Her intensity and passion for the game are among the best that fans have ever seen in recent years.
Her current players Flau'jae Johnson and Last-Tear Poa discussed this in Friday's episode of the "Best of Both Worlds with Flau'jae."
When asked about the funniest or most memorable Coach Kim Mulkey moment in her three-year stint with LSU, Poa said it was every time the four-time national champion coach yells at people and cusses them on the sidelines.
"Honestly, I would say this is funny to me when she is yelling at people and cussing them on the sideline. Sometimes I'll be hearing it and I'm like: 'oh my God,'" Poa said. (13:22)
Johnson, who also doubles in as a rapper and is signed to Roc Nation, responded to this and said that she was laughing silently on the bench hearing her coach scream and curse at people on the sidelines.
The shooting guard, however, pointed out that despite her antics, she loves her coach as her statements come from the heart and the Australian guard agreed.
"It comes out of love though. So if she's not yelling at you I feel like that's a problem but she's yelling at you man that's a good thing," Poa said (13:51).
Johnson pointed out that a future player who dreams of playing at LSU needs to have a ton of patience and iron will to withstand Kim Mulkey's outbursts and trash talks. She compares it to going into a battle daily, whether during practices or game time.
LSU still unbeaten going into the SEC regular season games
The lessons coach Kim Mulkey gives to her players have worked big time for the LSU Tigers this college basketball season, as they are unbeaten in 14 games. Their offense has been fluid with FLau'jae Johnson, Aneesah Morrow and Mikaylah Williams leading the charge.
The trio combined for most of the 93.3 points the Lady Tigers averaged each game. Johnson and Williams have been the offensive forces while Morrow has been the all-around monster who can hurt you in many ways.
Morrow is among the top contenders for the honors women's college player of the year, tallying a best 14.0 rpg with 18.3 ppg, 1.4 apg and 2.8 spg.
The No. 5 LSU will look to end its nonconference slate with a bang on Dec. 29 when it takes on Albany. The Lady Tigers' SEC regular season stint begins on Jan. 2, 2025, against Arkansas.
