MiLaysia Fulwiley Stats Tonight: How did South Carolina star fare vs Coppin State? (Nov 14)
MiLaysia Fulwiley sizzled in South Carolina's first home game of the 2024-25 college basketball season, scoring 23 points, on 9-of-13 shooting, as she led the Gamecocks to a 92-60 win over the Coppin State Eagles on Thursday night.
Fulwiley came in at the 6:32 mark of the first quarter and made her presence felt with an assist to Chloe Kitts. She scored her first point on a free throw, giving South Carolina an 11-8 lead.
The 5-foot-10 sophomore made her first field goal – a jumper with 2:50 remaining in the first period that tied the game at 13. That shot sparked a 12-3 closing run that gave the Gamecocks a 23-16 advantage at the end of the first period.
MiLaysia Fulwiley continued her surge in the second quarter, scoring five straight points in that span. It also handed South Carolina a 30-18 edge with 8:29 left. She would feed an open Te-Hina Paopao, who buried a 3-pointer for a 43-25 lead at the 1:23 mark of the second frame.
Fulwiley was one of the scoring leaders for South Carolina in the first half. She had 10 points, on 4-of-5 shooting from the field, two rebounds and three assists in 12 minutes.
The Columbia native continued her scoring binge in the third period, making seven straight points in 95 seconds to give the Gamecocks a 64-36 lead with 2:16 left.
Fulwiley would score her 20th point at the 9:34 mark of the fourth frame with a 3-pointer that put South Carolina ahead, 71-40. She followed that up with another triple to hand the Gamecocks a 79-47 cushion with 7:02 left.
That was her last offensive play as she was replaced at the 5:32 mark of the fourth period.

MiLaysia Fulwiley continues to excel off the bench for South Carolina
Fulwiley continued her excellent play off the bench for South Carolina. Once again, Fulwiley stepped up big time for the Gamecocks, producing 23 of the team's 48 bench points.
In two games she has played so far, the WJ Keenan High School product averages 11.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 blocks for South Carolina. She has shot 41.7% from the field, including 14.3% from 3-pointers.
Last season, Fulwiley played most of her time with the Gamecocks off the bench and tallied 11.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 2.2 apg and 1.7 spg in 18.4 minutes. She shot 43.8% from the field, including 34.3% from the 3-point line.
South Carolina's deep lineup has given coach Dawn Staley the luxury to deploy MiLaysia Fulwiley from the bench and the sophomore has provided the instant offense the Gamecocks need each game.
South Carolina will aim for its fourth straight win as it takes on East Carolina on Sunday afternoon at Colonial Life Arena.
