“1-0 when they have mid-flight fights”: College hoops fans react after Bruce Pearl’s Auburn take down No. 3 Houston in major road win
The Auburn Tigers remain undefeated after a big win over the No. 3 Houston Cougars on Saturday. It was a fierce battle at Toyota Center, with the Tigers narrowly coming out on top on the road, 74-69.
The win comes just days after Jahki Howard and Ja'Heim Hudson were involved in a fight during their flight to Houston on Friday, and the coaching staff decided to return home instead. The Tigers eventually made the trip to Houston on Saturday without the two forwards, with their victory making it seem like that incident is now in the rearview mirror.
The Tigers' victory drew a lot of reactions from college basketball fans, who took to social media to express their opinions. Some lauded their efforts to maintain their winning ways against the Cougars despite the flight incident.
"Auburn is 1-0 when they have mid-flight fights," one fan said.
"I don’t think we win this game without that fight," another fan said.
"Both teams showed up ready for a fight, but only one team practiced," a fan added.
Others tried to see the funny side in it, believing that it somehow united the team before they took on the Cougars.
"Fightclub on all future plane rides," one fan wrote.
"Good for team building. /s," another wrote.
"Auburn prepared for the game by beating on #3, then went on the court and beat on #3," a fan added.
Tahaad Pettiford and Johni Broome power Auburn to victory
Four-star recruit Tahaad Pettiford enjoyed a memorable night as he came off the bench and recorded 21 points, including five 3-pointers, three rebounds and three assists in 24 minutes.
While Auburn's starters struggled, senior forward Johni Broome finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Chaney Johnson had a double-double off the bench, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Tigers (2-0, 0-0 Southeastern Conference) will play their next two games at home. They will face Kent State (2-0, 0-0 Mid-American Conference) on Wednesday before taking on North Alabama (2-0, 0-0 Atlantic Sun Conference) on Nov. 18.
