$1.5M NIL-valued Flau'jae Johnson reveals she could've teamed up with Cavinder twins at Miami before choosing LSU
Flau'jae Johnson has made a huge difference for LSU since arriving on campus two seasons ago. However, things could have gone differently for the highly touted recruit had she committed to Miami when she had the chance, potentially teaming up with the Cavinder twins.
On her podcast 'Best of Both Worlds' on Wednesday, Johnson shared how she considered the Miami Hurricanes as a potential destination before ultimately going to Baton Rouge — a decision that has paid dividends for both LSU and herself.
"I'd probably say Miami, just so I could work on my music and be by the beach," Flau'jae replied to a fan question about where she might have played if not at LSU.
"I had a chance to go to Miami, but it's too fast for me. Me, knowing what I know now, I would be able to balance life and the party and all that because I don't even like to party, for real," she added. "But I am glad I did not go because I won a Natty my first year, so obviously, I made the right decision."
The Cavinder Twins — Hanna and Haley — transferred to Miami ahead of the 2022-23 season after starring at Fresno State. Ir happened the same year Flau'jae Johnson had begun her freshman year.
Johnson, a 5-foot-10 guard from Savannah, revealed that she initially wanted to join her home state university, Georgia, but the school didn't show interest. She picked LSU and went on to win an NCAA national championship as a freshman.
Flau'jae Johnson said she could have joined Tennessee instead of LSU
Flau'jae Johnson, a leading scorer for LSU this season, revealed during an interview with Overtime in September that she could have chosen to play for the Lady Volunteers instead of donning the purple and gold had she visited the Thompson–Boling Arena.
"Tennessee is nice, they whole arena is fire, I ain't gonna lie," Flau'jae said. "I'm glad I ain't take my visit because if I would've taken my visit and seen that arena, I would have some decisions to make.
"But I think they might have the nicest arena in the SEC by far. Oh, It's beautiful. I love playing there," she added. "When I played there last year, I was sick, so I didn't get to enjoy it. ... but Tennessee definitely had the best arena."
Flau'jae Johnson, whose NIL valuation is $1.5 million (as per ON3), played at Thompson–Boling Arena for the first time last season in the Tigers' 75-60 win over Tennessee.
