Flau'jae Johnson's stepdad makes bold claim about LSU star ahead of UCI game
Flau'jae Johnson has had a stellar start to her junior season at LSU. She has been influential in each of the Tigers' 13 games this season, which have all ended in victories for Kim Mulkey's fifth-ranked team.
It's no surprise that college basketball enthusiasts are tossing up draft projections for Johnson. Earlier Thursday, her stepfather, Ameen Brooks, added more stock to her hype through a story on Instagram.
Amid the immense talent who are draft eligible, Brooks believed Johnson is a bonafide No. 1 draft pick, expressing his thought while sharing a fan-made poster of hers ahead of LSU's game with the UIC Flames in Chicago on Thursday.
"#1 Draft Pick Hands Down," Brooks wrote.
In his next story on Instagram, Brooks posted a short clip of him being ready to catch a flight to Midway in Chicago and filling the bottom half of the clip with Johnson's No. 4, hinting he could be in attendance at the Credit Union 1 Arena to watch Johnson and the Tigers take on the Flames.
This season, Johnson has averaged 20.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.1 blocks, showing how valuable she is to LSU on both ends of the court.
Flau'jae Johnson keeps the nation on its toes ahead of 2025 WNBA draft
Flau'jae Johnson is eligible to declare for the 2025 WNBA draft, although she hasn't decided on whether she will go pro come the end of this season. Last month, she teased declaring for next year's draft on an episode of her "Best of Both Worlds" podcast, before swerving and staying mum on the subject, requesting eager fans to let her enjoy basketball at LSU.
Should Johnson declare for next year's draft, she is likely to end up being a first-round pick. However, at the moment, it's highly unlikely that the Dallas Wings will make her the top pick, given that UConn star Paige Bueckers leads multiple projections for that coveted spot.
