Kim Mulkey admits being “frugal” with her money while talking from a casino: “I’ll sit and watch people gamble”

LSU Tigers coach Kim Mulkey joined the "Off The Bench with T-Bob Hebert and Jacob Hester" radio show on Tuesday to talk about her team's win against Louisiana on Sunday. However, her remarks at the beginning of the interview grabbed attention.

Mulkey joked about how she'd rather watch others gamble than do it herself.

"Well, I'm walking to the casino, guys. You want me to pull one of these little levers on this slot machine for you?" Mulkey said. "I stay away from all this stuff 'cause, uh, I guess I'm just frugal with my money. I work too hard for it. I don't wanna give it away, but I'll sit and watch people gamble That's quite interesting."

Concerns for Kim Mulkey's LSU Tigers' play at the moment

When LSU coach Kim Mulkey missed the postgame press conference following the Tigers' 85-57 win against Louisiana on Sunday, assistant coach Bob Starkey stepped in — and the longtime assistant coach didn’t hold back. While the Tigers came out with a victory, Starkey made it clear the team’s performance left much to be desired.

Starkey praised Jersey Wolfenbarger, whose strong play helped LSU push through a slow start.

"She gave us a spark, and we desperately needed one today," Starkey said.

However, his tone quickly shifted to frustration.

"We, as a staff, are disappointed with how our team played," Starkey said. "We’ve been asking them to start games with more energy, but we continue to struggle with slow starts."

LSU’s defense held up, but their offensive issues were glaring. The Tigers (12-0) committed 17 turnovers, a number Starkey couldn’t ignore.

"Seventeen turnovers — that’s just sloppy basketball," Starkey said. "Credit to Louisiana; they played hard and were well-coached. But we shouldn’t be making our fans watch that kind of play."

The Tigers shot just 35.5%. The team relied heavily on individual performances, particularly from Wolfenbarger and Aneesah Morrow. Wolfenbarger led with 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Morrow added 15 points and matched her with 15 rebounds.

Looking ahead, fifth-ranked LSU faces a busy schedule with two road games in four days. The Tigers take on Seton Hall on Tuesday night and Illinois-Chicago on Thursday. After that, the Tigers return home to play Albany on Dec. 29.
