3x national champ Dawn Staley lends a helping hand for South Carolina HC Shane Beamer: “She's willing to do anything"
South Carolina women's basketball head coach Dawn Staley has been one of the most supportive figures in college basketball. She has often been spotted praising even her rival players and coaches.
Another class act from Staley was mentioned by South Carolina football coach, Shane Beamer. He had all positive things to say about the three-time national champion coach during the 2024 SEC Media Days in Dallas:
"[Staley] is fantastic, it's great for me to be able to watch her coach, learn from her, go and watch her team practice... even last season early on I called her to talk about some things. Coaching is coaching, teaching is teaching ... there's a lot of things I've learned from her. She's willing to do anything for our program."
Seven-time SEC Coach of the Year, Staley, is one of the most successful coaches in the sport. Her Gamecocks' roster last season secured every possible trophy, and the cherry on the top was that they went undefeated throughout the season. It was Dawn Staleys' third national title after winning it in 2017 and 2022 as well.
When asked if Dawn Staley and Beamer exchange advice, he said:
"I don't think she needs any from me. She doesn't need my help, but she's asked me a couple of times over the years to help with recruit on campus and I'm willing to do whatever I can."
Beamer supported Staley and her team at the 2024 NCAA Final game between South Carolina and Iowa. He was also spotted with Staley at the Gamecocks' practice session in April. On the other hand, Staley attended the Gamecocks' 2024 Garnet & Black Spring Game a few days later.
Dawn Staley also supported A'ja Wilson after her performance against the Mystics
South Carolina's former star, A'ja Wilson, has been a key player for the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA since her selection in the 2018 WNBA draft. She was the No. 1 overall pick and is currently having one of the best seasons of her WNBA Career.
Dawn Staley praised her for her recent performances, as she took to X/Twitter and wrote:
"Dizzam I just checked @_ajawilson22 statline.....oh you back to rebounding huh Ms. Wilson?!! 🥰🥰🥰 double double and almost double that up! You really trying to send a message to that voter who gave you a 4th place MVP vote. 🫣🫣🫣"
A'ja Wilson posted her fifth consecutive high-scoring double against the Mystics and is leading the league, averaging 27.2 points and 2.8 blocks. She also has the second-best rebounds (11.9 per game) and fourth-best steals (1.8 per game) in the league.
