5-Star PG Darius Acuff Jr. takes his name out of the running from Dan Hurley’s UConn: Reports

Darius Acuff Jr., one of the top prospects in the 2025 recruiting class, declared Dan Hurley’s Uconn, John Calipari’s Arkansas, Bill Self’s Kansas and Dusty May’s Michigan as his top-4 schools in June.

However, as he narrows down his list, the five-star talent is no longer considering the 2025 NCAA title favorites, the Uconn Huskies, as his potential landing spot, according to On3’s Joe Tipon. The prospect earlier shunned pursuits by Alabama, Indiana, Houston, LSU, Ohio State, Michigan State and other top programs.

Acuff Jr. is listed as an overall top-10 player in Rivals, ESPN and 247Sports reports. The Detroit native plays for the IMG Academy and is a Max Preps Juniors All-American Second Team honoree.

Darius Acuff Jr. is one of the most dominant players in his talent class and can anchor the offensive floor by scoring in multiple ways. For a 6-foot-2 frame, he manages to stay on his course against contact, making him a constant threat on the floor.

His resume includes age-restricted international experience with Team USA in the U18 FIBA Americup, where he averaged 17.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists to win the gold medal. In the final game against Argentina, Acuff Jr. scored 26 points, nine assists, and six rebounds to win the MVP award.

This allowed him to average 23.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists in Nike’s EYBL circuit through 10 games, the second-best output behind Cameron Boozer.

Acuff Jr.'s best EYBL game came against Team Takeover, where he scored 32 points, three rebounds and two assists on 44% field goal efficiency. He also had a 31-point game against Team Durant and a 28-point outing against NW Rotary Rebels.

His team, The Family, did not earn the Peach Jam bid and is currently 3-2 in PIT (Peach Invitational Tournament).
