“Acts like a fool”, “Embarrassment to the sport”: College hoops fans react as Dan Hurley furiously screams at the referees

UConn coach Dan Hurley, just minutes into a Maui Invitational quarterfinal matchup versus Memphis Monday, lost his temper for a call by the refs he didn't agree with. It wasn't a good look for Hurley, and fans were quick to call him out on X.

"There is something wrong with Dan Hurley. Acts like a fool every damn game." one fan wrote.
"Dan Hurley is an embarrassment to the sport and needs to be put in a padded room." another commented.
"Dan Hurley is crashing tf out 😭" was another comment on Hurley's actions.

It's not the first time fans have called out Hurley's actions on the sidelines. The decorated UConn head coach is well-known for his volatile nature, especially towards refs and fans.

Fans have continued to pour in on Hurley for his behavior, with one commenter calling him "nauseating".

"Not sure who's downfall to pray on watching this game: Tyrese Hunter or Dan Hurley?" a fan commented.
"Dan Hurley woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning" another commented.
"Dan Hurley is truly nauseating 🙃🙄" another fan wrote.

Hurley's volatile temperament courtside has been well-documented over the years, with the head coach having multiple run-ins with fans in 2024 alone.

Following his team's blowout win over the Providence Friars back in March 2024, Hurley had a confrontation with a fan who, apparently, was talking trash even though his team was down badly. He explained the interaction after the game.

“You shouldn’t be yelling at me when you’re down 20. You should just wait for the game to be over and walk out. If he wasn’t barking at me, I wouldn’t have said anything to him,” Hurley said.
“A fan was saying, ‘You suck, you guys haven’t won anything.’ And I told him, ‘I’ve got a national championship ring,’” Hurley continued.

Hurley can be seen motioning for the fan to come towards him and is then heard saying "You'll get hurt" before security steps in his way.

Some may say this is a sign of Hurley's passion for the game, while others will say it's unacceptable behavior. As far as this most recent outburst in Maui is concerned, fans do not seem impressed.
