Ailing Kiyan Anthony and mom La La Anthony go wild after $44,000 win on Nuggets game
On Saturday, La La Anthony uploaded a series of photos and videos on her Instagram to recap her life of late. The post captured the family's Thanksgiving celebration, Anthony's college announcement party and more.
La La also included a video of the Anthony household bursting into loud cheers as Carmelo Anthony's old team, the Denver Nuggets, took on the Los Angeles Clippers. The two teams faced off on Dec. 1, with the Clippers winning the game, 126-122.
They had apparently placed a bet on the game, the details of which were unknown. But in the video, La La announced that they had hit on their bet, to the delight of everyone, including Kiyan Anthony, who was on crutches.
"Announcement, we just won $44,000," La La Anthony said. "$1000 for every kid." (3rd slide)
The Clippers opened the game with a nine-point lead in the first quarter before Denver evened it to 59 at the break. LA regained momentum behind the notable contribution of Norman Powell and James Harden, who combined for 67 points in the win.
Why is Kiyan Anthony on crutches?
On Nov. 30, Kiyan Anthony took a scary fall in the Long Island Lutheran’s opening game against St. Joseph. Having posted 16 points in the contest, the 17-year-old leaped for a slam in the fourth quarter. However, a mid-air contest by Nate Blenmanas disrupted his balance, sending him to the floor.
Anthony did not suffer any major injuries in the game. He is currently rehabbing soreness in his hamstring, back and tailbone. While there is no strict timeline for his recovery, the combo guard claimed that he will be ready for the court in no time after the game.
"Being in the air and realizing you don’t have your feet under you is always a scary feeling," Anthony said in a post-game interview. "I’m in a little bit of pain right now, but I should be all good."
Kiyan Anthony is currently in his senior high school year and will play for the Syracuse Orange next season. He announced his commitment on Carmelo Anthony's "7PM in Brooklyn" podcast in mid-November.
