Alabama disclose 11 minor NCAA violations including one by Nate Oats' team: Reports
The Alabama Crimson Tide self-reported 11 minor NCAA violations on Wednesday. Each was a Level 3 violation — classified as a breach of conduct that is isolated and doesn't provide much of an advantage — and took place between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024.
While none of the violations came from the football program, there was one by Nate Oats' basketball team. The incident took place on April 6, 2024, the same day the Crimson Tide lost to the UConn Huskies in the Final Four. Matt Stahl of AL.com shared the details, writing:
"UA’s men’s basketball program had one of the violations, reported on April 6, when a complimentary admission was sold through a secondary marketplace without the player’s knowledge. The player was declared ineligible and Alabama sought reinstatement."
It is unclear who the player involved was or if he was reinstated. The Crimson Tide program did not face any punishment for the violation.
Alabama is tied with the Duke Blue Devils for the third-best odds, +1200, to win the national title in 2024-25. They trail only the UConn Huskies and Kansas Jayhawks, who both have +1000 odds to emerge as champions.
What are the remaining 10 violations self-reported by Alabama?
Matt Stahl provided insight on all 11 violations that were committed and self-reported by the Alabama Crimson Tide. The AL.com beat writer added:
"Women’s basketball saw two violations, one for impermissible decorations in the hotel room of an official visitor, and another for hosting an official visit during 'seven-day discretionary period following championship event.' Other violations included: A swimming coach having impermissible electronic contact with an athlete who hadn’t initiated a notification of transfer."
"A baseball recruit made an official visit before being added to the NCAA Eligibility Center’s institutional request list. Gymnastics staff had contact with a potential recruit before the permissible date. Assistant women’s rowing coach worked at a privately owned camp that didn’t meeting institutional camp requirements. An associate women’s soccer coach accidentally emailed a recruit before the permissible date."
"Swimming and diving coaches 'mistakenly' paid for transfer recruit’s meal, valued at $32 according to the report Men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs held year-end banquet on a required off day. Men’s golf non-athletic staff member attended two meals where recruits were present."
While there are 11 violations, they are all minor in nature and the Crimson Tide will face minimal punishment — all on a case-to-case basis. Alabama self-reported nine violations last year, with two involving the basketball program and none involving the football program.
