Rayah Marshall also set a scoring record during the game as she crossed the 1000-career points mark. Coach Lindsay Gottlieb spoke about the milestone in her post-game press conference.

“Don’t make me cry on day one, but the milestone is great. … 1,000 points is a big deal,” she said.

Marshall was one of the first players that Gottlieb coached when she arrived at USC in 2021. Watching the achievement and growth of the center was extra special to the coach.

“When you have someone for four years, you see the growth,” Gottlieb said (via Annenberg Media). “We are where we are because she has grown and improved so much over these four years.”

“Playing under Coach G has been everything for my career, and it was a fun night. A lot of shots fell for me and it was fun.”

Angel Reese shows her support for her former college team, LSU

Angel Reese spent two years in Baton Rouge and led the LSU Tigers to their first NCAA championship in 2023. She averaged 20.9 points, 14.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists during her time with the Tigers. In her senior season at LSU, Reese led the team on an Elite Eight run before being sent home by Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

In April, Angel Reese made the move to the WNBA as she was picked No. 7 by the Chicago Sky. After a successful rookie season that was cut short by a wrist injury, the forward is now enjoying her off-season. Last week, she showed her support for the LSU Tigers who opened their season against Eastern Kentucky on Monday, Nov. 4.

"College Basketball is backkkk!! GEAUX TIGERSSSSSSSSS."

Angel Reese had a relatively easy transition into the WNBA and named LSU coach Kim Mulkey as the reason for it.

"I think my transition has been great,” Reese said in June. “It hasn’t been a super big, huge surprise because Kim Mulkey kind of prepared me for this moment.
"At LSU, our practice was like four hours. We were ready, we were working. I thought training was going to be harder. I think I was really prepared. I didn’t have any WNBA surprises yet.”

Without the forward, the LSU Tigers are now navigating a new era with Flau'jae Johnson as the leader.
