“Anotha one,” “Yeah glo”: Iowa’s Lucy Olsen, Jada Gyamfi react to Hannah Stuelke donning Hawkeyes jersey for media day snaps
Iowa star Hannah Stuelke had Hawkeye fans buzzing on Sunday when photos surfaced of her from the media day. She shared several pictures of herself donning the iconic Black and Gold jersey on Instagram.
"Blessed with another year🤩 let’s get it," Hannah captioned the post.
In the picture, she sat on a chair and sported the Hawkeyes' home jersey, a new look for the rising junior. The comments section was filled with praise for Stuelke from her current and former teammates.
"Anotha oneeee👏👏," Lucy Olsen, a senior transfer from Villanova commented.
"Yeah glo!!!," Jada Gyamfi wrote, also expressing her excitement.
WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark left a message for her ex-teammate Stuelke.
"Less photoshoots. More work💯 ya got me?" Clark wrote.
Hannah Stuelke, a former player at Washington High in Iowa, earned the Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year in her freshman season with the Hawkeyes. During her sophomore year, she played a crucial role in guiding Iowa to the Big Ten tournament title and the national championship game.
Despite not making a start in her first year, Stuelke made 32 starts last season, developing oncourt chemistry with Jada Gyamfi and Caitlin Clark.
Hannah Stuelke will take more central role at Iowa in upcoming season
Hannah Stuelke, a 6-foot-2 forward, has steadily seen her playing time and impact increase throughout her two seasons with the Hawkeyes' women's basketball team.
Iowa has undergone a massive change from last season, as longtime coach Lisa Bluder retired this summer and assistant coach Jan Jensen taking over.
Stuelke's role is poised to be more focal in the team's rotations, with the departure of multiple star players and key contributors from last season's team. Caitlin Clark left the Hawkeyes to join the WNBA and now plays for the Indiana Fever. Senior guard Kate Martin also followed Clark to the professional ranks, signing a contract with the Las Vegas Aces.
Meanwhile, Gabbie Marshall and Molly Davis announced their retirement. So the stage is set for Hannah Stuelke to potentially emerge as a star player for Iowa in the new season.
With several recruits coming in and one senior signing, Lucy Olsen, Stuelke, who averaged 14 points, 6.6 rebounds and .627 FG % last season, could assume a leadership role in Iowa. Coach Jensen will look forward to build on the team's success from the Bluder era with an eye on winning the national championship.
