“Are we serious”: Patrick McCaffery jokingly stands up for Gabbie Marshall’s brother Luke after omission from vacation photos
Former Iowa Hawkeye Gabbie Marshall is embarking on a new chapter in her life. With her professional basketball career coming to an end, she is pursuing a master's in occupational therapy from North Carolina.
Nevertheless, before the transition, Gabbie Marshall has been enjoying her time in Seaside, Florida and constantly updating her fans on Instagram. However, the guard recently posted the last set of images from her trip, sparking a playful comment by Patrick McCaffery, brother of Caitlin Clark's boyfriend Connor McCaffrey.
"Last one, promise 💌," Marshall quipped on the post.
Patrick McCaffery noticed that Marshall had just included images of her siblings Noah and Lily, prompting him to enquire about the absence of Luke in the photos.
"Luke didn’t make the cut? are we serious?," McCaffery commented on Marshall's post.
While Marshall clarified by stating that Luke "hates pictures," the thread became funnier when Luke himself intervened.
"I was never offered," Marshall's youngest brother started, yielding "justice for luke" remark from McCaffery.
Like Marshall, Patrick McCaffery is a former Iowa Hawkeye. He is the son of their men’s basketball program’s coach Fran McCaffery.
While the lady Hawkeye’s playing days are behind her, McCaffery has recently transferred from the program and committed to Butler.
Gabbie Marshall's time with Iowa Hawkeyes
Even though Marshall was not invited to the 2024 draft night in April, her contributions to the Iowa Hawkeyes have made her a program star. She was part of the historic Hawkeyes crew featuring Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin and coach Lisa Bluder, which singlehandedly brought massive eyes to women’s basketball. Moreover, she helped create the culture that Jan Jensen will carry this season.
Gabbie Marshall averaged 6.6 points, 1.7 assists and 1.5 rebounds through her five years and became the first player in program history to log 200 three-pointers and garner 200 steals.
Even though her 2020-21 yielded promising averages of 9.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists on 45.3% three-point shooting, she was aligned more towards the defensive assignments, which ultimately affected her overall production on the stat sheet. Nevertheless, Marshall was still eyed by the coaching staff and Clark during crunch time moments.
