Arizona’s Jada Williams ranks South Carolina duo above UConn’s Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd and KK Arnold
Arizona star Jada Williams has had a decent start to her sophomore season, putting up 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds through the first four games. She scored 15 points and pulled down six rebounds in Arizona's 75-66 win over UNLV on Wednesday.
Williams made a guest appearance on a recent episode of the "Sometimes I Hoop" podcast where the host, Haley Jones, asked her to blind rank the top five duos in women's college basketball.
Jones first gave Williams the names of the NC State Wolfpack duo df Saniya Rivers and Aziaha James.
"They're my dawgs," the 5-foot-8 guard said. "I'm going have to say three."
Next up was UConn's Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd or KK Arnold. Williams immediately went for the number two spot for the Husky duo.
Jones then gave Williams the duo of Raven Johnson and MiLaysia Fulwiley from South Carolina, and she put them number one.
Notre Dame's Olivia Miles and Hannah Hidalgo took the fourth spot, and Texas Longhorns' Rori Harmon and Madison Booker filled the fifth spot.
"They all need to be at number one, they're all even, like 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3," Jada said after the game.
Jada Williams reflects on her decision to de-commit from UCLA and join Arizona
Jada Williams was a five-star prospect in the 2023 class who originally committed to the University of California, Los Angeles, in March 2021.
However, in August 2022, she flipped her decision and chose to attend the University of Arizona, a rival of UCLA in the Pac-12.
Speaking with host Haley Jones, an Atlanta Dream guard, on the podcast "Sometimes I Hoop," Williams discussed the thought process behind the decision.
"It was a super hard decision, like it was not on the spot. I talked about it with my family, I prayed a lot, and they understood that ... of course, we're both hurt," Jada said. "I think personal reasons, maybe a location as well. It had nothing to do with the coaches ... The call was really hard, I was blowing my eyes out."
Jada Williams also explained what led her to join the Wildcats.
"I think it was really personality for me. I'm a really passionate player ... and I think (Coach Adia) understands that," she added. "So, I think playing for somebody that's just as passionate as you are, it's really important and so we kind of click on that."
Last season, as a freshman at Arizona, Williams averaged 9.5 ppg, 2.4 apg and 1.7 rpg.
