“Brought the smoke”: College hoops fans react as Flau'jae Johnson achieves career milestone at LSU
Flau'jae Johnson reached an impressive milestone as she surpassed 1,000 career points in women's college basketball. The LSU Lady Tigers guard did so in their game against the Charleston State Buccaneers on Tuesday, as she starred in a mammoth 117-44 victory for Kim Mulkey's side.
Johnson was just 18 points shy of the 1,000 mark prior to the Tigers' game against the Buccaneers. She achieved the feat by completing a fastbreak with a fine layup in the fourth quarter, which was also the final shot she made in the game.
Johnson recorded her first double-double of the season, as she finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds in her 31-minute appearance.
Johnson's mesmerizing display caught the attention of college basketball fans, who took to social media to express their opinions. Some of them shared kind messages on X, showing just how awestruck they were by her performance.
"Johnson brought the smoke," said one fan.
"Flau’jae! Let’s go," said another.
Another fan added, "@Flaujae Team leader earning a dbl-dbl SWEET!"
One fan who brought her little girls to the game also congratulated Flau'jae on her achievement.
"Congrats @Flaujae Scoring 1000 Points In Her College Career 🏀🏀"
However, other fans weren't as impressed, believing this was bound to happen given the massive difference between the two teams in terms of talent.
"Played a high school team," said one fan.
Another fan added, "Charleston Southern lol really?"
Flau'jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow lead demolition of Charleston Southern
Flau'jae Johnson went 7-for-15 from the field, 1-for-4 from 3-point range and 3-for-5 from the free throw line en route to an impressive double-double against the Buccaneers.
However, she wasn't the only one to record a double-double, as senior guard Aneesah Morrow became just the sixth player in program history to record a 20/20 game, which was also the 27th such game in LSU history.
Johnson and Morrow were ably backed up by Mikaylah Williams, who followed up her SEC Freshman of the Year season by finishing as the Tigers' top scorer against the Buccaneers with 25 points. Kailyn Gilbert came close to a double-double herself, as she finished with 14 points and nine rebounds in her 27-minute performance off the bench.
Flau'jae Johnson and the No. 7 Tigers, who are now 4-0 this season, will continue their run of home games by taking on the Murray State Racers on November 15 at 8PM ET.
