Basketball fans showed love to their favorite women ballers on the Instagram page of 'OvertimeWBB,' to stars such as Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu. Their tributes were in response to the Paige Bueckers x Nike giveaway contest, which was posted by the account on Friday.
Fans flooded the comments section with heartwarming messages to the female hoopers they like in the pro and college ranks, tagging them in their comments for a chance to win the Christmas giveaway. Entries will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. EST on Dec. 24, 2024.
To no one's surprise, WNBA stars Clark and Ionescu got lots of love from their supporters. Clark took the league by storm in her first season with the Indiana Fever, winning Rookie of the Year honors after leading her team to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Ionescu captured her first WNBA title this year, helping the New York Liberty beat the Minnesota Lynx in five games in the finals.
"Caitlin Clark, you inspire me to have confidence and to push through the struggles to continue playing the game I love. GO FEVER," one fan wrote.
"Sabrina Ionescu, thank you for showing me that I can get through any obstacle life throws at me with a smile on my face. Also, thank you for showing me that anxiety doesn't have to stop me from going after what I want," another fan replied.
College basketball stars also got some love, with UConn players Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd receiving touching messages from their fans.
"Paige Bueckers, thank you for being the best role model and helping me become the best player and person I can be on and off the court. My whole room is decorated with your jerseys and posters," one fan commented.
"Paige Bueckers, thank you for inspiring me to do better and always push through everything," one fan shared.
"Azzi Fudd, you're such a good inspiration and great player. Can't wait to see you back on the court," another fan wrote.
"Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers because I tore my ACL, and watching them come back from their injuries gives me hope that I can come back from mine," one fan replied.
Paige Bueckers in stellar form ahead of showdown with JuJu Watkins' USC Trojans
The No. 4 UConn Huskies have started the 2024-25 NCAA season with a 10-1 record thanks to the stellar play of Paige Bueckers. She leads the Huskies in scoring, averaging 20.6 points through 11 games. Bueckers is coming off a 27-point outing against Iowa State on Tuesday night.
All eyes will be on Bueckers as she will play against JuJu Watkins in Saturday's game against the No. 7 USC Trojans. They last faced each other in the Elite Eight of the 2024 NCAA Tournament, combining for 57 points in their first-ever collegiate showdown. Bueckers scored 28 points in that contest to lead UConn to an 80-73 win.
