“Cant stop god’s plan”: Rapper Master P expresses gratitude while showing off son Mercy Miller’s electric hooping skills
Rapper Master P's son, Mercy Miller, shone in his Houston Cougars debut on Sunday, scoring 11 points as a substitute. Master P, undoubtedly proud, expressed his gratitude for his son's achievement.
Percy posted a video of Mercy's on-court exploits on his Instagram account. The footage shows the 6-foot-4 guard leaping high over defenders for a two-handed dunk.
"Can’t stop God’s plan! My son @mercymiller #25 the future. Hard work pays off," P. Miller captioned the post.
In an exhibition win against Texas A&M at Fertitta Center, Miller played for 14 minutes, made five out of seven shots from the field and hit one of his two 3-point attempts.
Mercy Miller, a four-star recruit enrolled at Houston this summer. He played his high school basketball at Notre Dame High in California averaging 29.8 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game in the past season.
However, Miller will need to be patient for playing time with the Cougars this freshman year, as guards like LJ Cryer, Emanuel Sharp and Milos Uzan are currently ahead of him in the lineup.
"Somebody I'm sure will make the mistake of thinking Mercy's way better than he is," Houston coach Kelvin Sampson said after the game. "We don't evaluate our guys on 20 minutes here or 10 minutes there. There's a reason we recruited all of them. As long as they stay patient their time will come."
Mercy Miller once reflected on family basketball lineage including dad Master P
Although Mercy Miller's father, Master P, carved out a successful career in music, the Miller family has a legacy that extends well into the hardwood.
Percy played in the Continental Basketball Association for Fort Wayne Fury and later joined Charlotte Hornets' training camp squads. He also got a chance to try out for the Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings in their summer league training camps.
"It means everything to my family," Mercy said proudly of his family's basketball history (per Chron). "We're the Millers, but we hoop, we play basketball. My dad, he's a famous rapper, but he started off as a basketball player. This is something that's been passed down and it's something we all love to do."
Mercy Miller also mentioned that he holds the distinction for the best hooper in the family.
"There's always a debate about who's the best," he said. "I don't think anybody is ever going to say who's truly the best, but I feel I'm the best hooper in my family."
According to 247Sports, Mercy had offers from Hampton University and the University of Minnesota but chose to play for Houston.
