Chelsea Gray drops invaluable advice for LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson: “I worked on this countless hours”
Flau’jae Johnson interviewed WNBA champion and 'Point Gawd' Chelsea Gray for Thursday's episode of her podcast, "Best of Both Worlds with Flaujae." The two guards discussed Gray's life on the court, her WNBA journey, the Olympics and more.
Chelsea Gray spent four years playing for the Duke Blue Devils in college, and Flau’jae Johnson asked the veteran guard for advice on how a college player like herself can unlock her confidence while playing within the system.
"I didn't understand how much film helps for me. Gray said (13:55). "Like actually seeing it like I could talk about it and like implementing it, finding players that kind of resonate with you."
"I will watch but I'm just like, I'm not going to hoop like Bron, I'm not going to hoop like this person. I found people that's like, 'All right, I take a little bit from them. I take a little bit from them.'"
Gray went on to share that the best way for a player to build their confidence is to keep expanding their game and keep the opponents on their toes.
"They think they got you with one thing, you take them with another and that builds confidence because now you have strength and you going into your move and like, 'I worked on this countless hours. I know what this is.'"
Flau’jae Johnson shares her goals for the upcoming season
After an NCAA championship in 2023 and an Elite Eight run in 2024, Flau’jae Johnson is back for more with the 2024-25 season. The LSU Tigers have lost key pieces like Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith. However, Johnson is confident of leading the Tigers to a better run this year.
"I'm ready, like, I'm ready to play.," Johnson said during Oct. 25's episode of "Best of Both Worlds" podcast. "That's it, I'm just feeling ready. It's my junior year, I've done this two times before: first time was great, second time ended a little short. Third time's a charm."
"So I'm excited about the season and we have just been preparing just harder, just been preparing harder. It's just as far as us being in shape."
Flau’jae Johnson also shared that she is in her best physical fitness to take on the challenges of the long season ahead. With Johnson, Aneesah Morrow is also expected to take on the leadership role.
The LSU Tigers will begin their season on Nov. 4 against Eastern Kentucky.
