Coach Prime’s daughter Shelomi Sanders shoots three-word response to Pittsburgh transfer Mikayla Johnson's showing against Bucknell
Despite going their separate ways, Shelomi Sanders still hypes up her former Colorado teammate Mikayla Johnson. After spending their freshman season with the Buffaloes, Johnson moved to Pittsburgh while Coach Prime's daughter found a new home with the Alabama A&M Bulldogs.
On Sunday, Shelomi shared a post about Johnson's game against the Bucknell Bison from Saturday, where she played a crucial role in the 64-61 win. Sanders wrote:
"Yessss girly pop."
In her first five minutes on the court, Mikayla Johnson had 10 points, including two 3-pointers. She finished the game with a career-high 12 points, a team-high four assists and one block. With the Buffaloes, Johnson played 15 games and averaged 1.9 points and 0.8 rebounds.
At the time of her transfer, Panthers coach Tory Verdi praised Mikayla Johnson:
"Mikayla is a talented player who gives us depth and height at the wing position. She has the ability to get down hill and attack the basket. Her best basketball is ahead of her and I expect her to have an impact on the future of our program."
Shelomi Sanders settles into her new home at Alabama A&M
After not playing much in the last two seasons with Jackson State and Colorado, it looks like Shelomi Sanders may have finally found her team. The guard suited up for the first time on Monday, Nov. 4, when Alabama A&M faced Oakwood University for an exhibition game.
Sanders played 10 minutes and finished with 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field, including 4-of-10 from the 3-point range. She also had two steals and one rebound and assist as the Bulldogs won 96-50.
In the season opener against the Alabama Crimson Tide, Shelomi Sanders saw limited time playing just four minutes, and the Bulldogs lost 84-59. In the next 57-66 win over Eastern Michigan, Sanders played two minutes.
Shelomi Sanders played just 11 minutes during her lone season with the Buffaloes. When asked about the reason behind her decision to transfer in an Instagram Live from August, the guard said:
“I don’t want to say anything too bad. It just wasn’t good energy. It wasn’t good vibes… If I didn’t leave when I did, I promise you I would’ve quit.”
Although her father, Deion Sanders, was initially critical of her decision to move, he has since warmed to the idea and showed his support on social media. Sanders and her team will next take on UAB on Tuesday.
