Cooper Flagg’s twin brother Ace Flagg announces his college commitment

Days before Cooper Flagg returns to Maine to face the Black Bears, his twin brother Ace Flagg announced his homecoming. The small forward from the 2024 talent pool declared his commitment to the University of Maine through an Instagram post on Tuesday.

Flagg posted a mixtape on his account, showcasing his practices and plays from his time at Maine United and Montverde Academy.

"Coming Home #committed," Flagg captioned the post.

Ace Flagg chose Maine over Boston College, George Washington, West Virginia, Colgate and other programs. He also tagged along with his twin brother for a visit to Duke last year, but Maine was the only university he officially visited.

Being from Newport, Maine, the forward has a deep bond with the program. The Black Bears was the first university to offer him earlier in 2023 and has been in constant conversation with him ever since.

Earlier, Cooper Flagg and Ace were supposed to enter the college circuit together. However, as the twins transferred to Montverde after beginning high school basketball at Nokomis Regional, Flagg reclassified to the 2024 class to be eligible for the 2025 NBA draft.

There's a possibility that Cooper Flagg and Ace Flagg might not play against each other in college. However, that could change if Cooper decides to stay for his sophomore year.

Ace Flagg will be a primary option for the Maine Black Bears

The 6-foot-9 forward is unrated by 247Sports and rated 3-star by ESPN. However, according to Flagg’s sports performance coach, Matt MacKenzie, he will be a staple centerpiece for Maine next year, which will ultimately help develop him for his NBA candidacy.

“They really care a lot about him and his family, and they made it very clear that they plan to feature him as somebody who is going to be a focal point of their program for several years to come,” MacKenzie said.

Black Bears’ plans for Ace also contribute heavily on his decision to commit, as he will have an opportunity to have an immediate impact on the Division I landscape. Moreover, he also has family ties connecting him to the program.

Flagg’s mother, Kelly, was the tri-captain of the 1998 women's basketball roster, which was eventually inducted into the program’s hall of fame, while his grandparents live near the University.
