Dan Hurley's massive $50 million contract extension could hurt UConn's pursuit of top talents in country, says NCAAB analyst

Dan Hurley signed a lucrative six-year, $50 million contract extension with the UConn Huskies, the school announced on Monday. The blockbuster move comes after the coach led the team to back-to-back national titles.

After Hurley's extension with UConn was confirmed, college basketball analyst Lance Taylor explained how the mammoth deal could affect the Huskies' pursuit of top talents in the offseason.

"I would just say this, because we don't know. We talked about Jay Wright and him retiring at Villanova because he didn't know about the collective," Taylor said on The Next Round podcast.
"We really don't know what UConn's collective brings and when you give coach $50 million, it’s going to be difficult for them to continue to bring in the talented players they’re bringing in."

In a news release via UConn, Hurley expressed his gratitude toward the program and insisted that his Huskies team will continue to fight for major honors.

"It's an honor to coach basketball at UConn and to represent this world class institution and the great state of Connecticut," Hurley said. "We are extremely proud of the championship program that we have rebuilt for our supporters and fans. We will continue to obsessively pursue championships and historic success, while continuing to develop great young men. Bleed Blue!"

After penning a new extension at UConn, Hurley will aim to achieve a historic three-peat of national titles. Nearly a month back, Hurley turned down a six-year, $70 million contract to coach the NBA's LA Lakers, which adds more flavor to the Huskies deal.
