“Did we watch the same game Chuck?”: College hoops fans mock Charles Barkley after his review of Duke vs Auburn
The Dec. 5 game between No. 9 Duke and No. 2 Auburn garnered plenty of attention as a ranked matchup. It even got the attention of NBA legend and Auburn alum Charles Barkley.
As the Blue Devils came out victorious in an 84-78 upset, Barkley reacted to what happened after the game on the Next Round show. He did not see the loss as damaging to Auburn but did see it as a chance for them to clean up issues they had throughout the contest.
Meanwhile, he also shared his main takeaway from the game:
"Auburn's got a better team than Duke, that's what I got away from that game last night."
Fans were quick to respond to Barkley's comments, criticizing him for not recognizing Duke's high-level talent while seeing the game as another reason why Auburn has the better team. Here are some of their reactions.
"Did we watch the same game chuck?" one fan asked.
"They got diced up by a freshman who hasn't played in a single big game this year...," one fan replied, possibly referring to Isaiah Evans, who finished with a season-high 18 points.
"Duke has 10x better personal on the team. Auburn just plays better together," one fan stated.
One fan pointed out that Barkley was not being completely objective with his comment.
Another fan brought up the depth Duke showed in its win against Auburn.
"So Duke being down double digits and coming back and played a different rotation than all the other ranked matchups didn't show that Duke is a really deep team this year for the first time in awhile?" a fan asked.
Meanwhile, one fan believes that Auburn did not suffer much from the defeat, demonstrating how elite they are as a program even when on their toughest nights.
"He's right. Duke had an unbelievable performance in front of a home crowd and favorable whistle. Auburn is still a top 3 team in the country," one fan said.
Cooper Flagg led Duke to the upset win over Auburn
It was a back-and-forth affair between the ranked sides, but Duke had the edge thanks to their freshman star Cooper Flagg.
Flagg led the way with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds while creating four assists on 7-of-18 shooting from the field. He got huge assistance from Isaiah Evans who converted on six of his eight three-point attempts to finish with 18 points in 16 minutes of action.
No. 9 Duke improved to 6-2 on the season, as they seek their third straight win when they play the Louisville Cardinals at the KFC Yum! Center on Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. ET.
